I asked Seattle PI reporter Casey McNerthney if he had heard anything more regarding the analysis of that strange piece of material recovered.

He thanked me for my e-mail and said "A University of Washington research engineer analyzed the black fragment and said it's probably a meteor chunk or old lava.
